Photos From the Irish Maritime Festival 2014 :)

The Irish Maritime Festival was a huge success last weekend in Drogheda Port. Drogheda town centre was buzzing with the festival atmosphere Saturday and Sunday. What fab weather we got for it!

Here’s some photos we took, mostly of the Augustinian Gospel Choir! You can imagine my fright when I turned around to see a dancing Spongebob Squarepants on stage, right behind me! What fun we had! And of course a dancing Patrick, our newest choir member 😉

Thanks to the Purple Sessions crew for the great sound and thanks to the festival organisers for a wonderful experience!

‘Mindblowing’ night of music at the Barbican – Independent.ie

I enjoyed the concerts and rehearsals so much I couldn’t bear the thought of parting ways with the choir after the shows last weekend. I got such a lovely, friendly, positive energy every time I was around the members of the choir! Chancing my arm, I offered my services of alto vocals and my offer was greatly accepted with open arms! I attended my first rehearsal as an alto last Tuesday and there I received the warmest welcome from everyone.

I have been aching to take part in a music production for a long time, I’m so excited!

Today we performed at the Annual Mass for Road Traffic Accident Victim’s in the Augustinian Church, Drogheda. I was playing bass again alongside Alan Barton on drums, Gerry Simpson on piano, backing up the choir. It was a very beautiful and touching Mass.

I will be announcing further performances in the near future!

Special Announcement!

I’m delighted to announce I have joined Gerry Simpson and the Augustinian Gospel Choir band for their upcoming concerts in Drogheda, Co. Louth this November!

I will be playing bass guitar alongside Dermot Roche on electric guitar and Alan Barton on drums.

This is the biggest production yet of the Augustinian Gospel Choir with their special two night show in the Barbican Theatre, William St, Drogheda, November 9th and 10th with a full camera crew and special guests Pat Coldrick (amazing classical guitarist) and Gerry Mulroy. They will be launching their new DVD and everyone joining them will receive their latest CD- free!

Tickets are available at the Barbican venue itself and in CD World, Town Centre, Drogheda.

I’m very, very excited and hope to see my friends there!

New Music: “Avradî” is an Instrumental For The Soul

I have been feeling compelled to create some new music lately, especially the last couple of days. In recent times I have been feeling a strain and somewhat hampered when it comes to creation but tonight I put all thoughts of negativity out of my head and let my creative mind wander.

I knocked off the click track and just played. I played what I have been feeling in my head and my heart. There are emotions and thoughts bound to this piece of music which I cannot disclose here.

This all sounds rather holistic and I suppose it is, my approach to creativity and music has always been focused on my Higher Self and expressing my inner-most thoughts.

So I’m putting this piece of music online because I feel it’s an accurate representation of who I am and what’s going on in my head at this point in my life.

Field Recording at Dunany Point, Co. Louth, Ireland

A couple of weeks ago I brought my Zoom H4N handy recorder to my favourite secret beach- Dunany Point, Co. Louth.

Dunany Point (Dunany being the anglicisation of Dún Áine -the fort of Áine) is said to be a place of deep sorrow, where the beautiful Áine sat in her chair of stone and looked across the sea towards her love who never returned. It is said that the black rocks at the base of the cliff were Áine’s attempt to build a causeway so she could see her love one day. Alas, Áine never did see her love again and slowly went mad with grief.

This recording might be nice for those who wish to hear a mostly unvisited, unspoiled beach in a quiet corner of Ireland!

Please enjoy this recording and if you wish to use it in your project, don’t hesitate to ask for permission!

Trouble Pilgrims Secret Gig Goes Down a Storm in Drogheda!

Trouble with a capital “T” came to Drogheda last night! The Trouble Pilgrims played a secret gig and rocked Clarkes Bar!

Delivering high energy rock since 1974, the Trouble Pilgrims are the current members from the Radiators From Space- Steve Rapid (vocal and theremin), Pete Holidai (the Devil’s guitar and vocal), Johnny Bonnie (drums and vocal), Paddy Goodwin (bass guitar and vocal) and are joined by Tony St Ledger on rhythm guitar and vocal. The Radiators are without founder member, vocalist/guitarist Philip Chevron.

The Trouble Pilgrims live set includes material from all of the Radiators From Space albums, classic cover versions as well as songs from Pete Holidai’s solo album The Devil’s Guitar.

The band are playing small venues in preparation for their big performance in the Olympia this August.

Olympia

It was a personal delight to catch up with Pete Holidai and watch him rock out with his devilishly handsome leftie Burns Hank Marvin white electric guitar and red 1976 Fender Strat. Pete is a huge inspiration to me as a guitar player, music producer, song-writer and teacher.

I’m a huge fan of the sound of Pete’s white Burns guitar in particular, clean yet crunchy with plenty of sexy Rez-o-tube tremolo, it’s the unmistakeable sound of the Devil’s guitar! I’m MAD to own a Burns Hank Marvin guitar myself now (because the nine guitars I already have aren’t enough!).

Pete’s solo album The Devil’s Guitar is a personal favourite of mine, it being the main album I listened to the second half of 2011! The Trouble Pilgrims treated us to “Jack of Hearts” which was the very first song I heard from The Devil’s Guitar before the mix was even finished in early 2011!

My favourite song from The Devil’s Guitar (that baritone guitar gets me every time!):

Wonderful live sound, wonderful performance and a wonderful atmosphere! If you get the opportunity to see the Trouble Pilgrims in an intimate venue near you, I urge you to go! They rattle cages and pull chains!!!
